Galatians: Freedom Through Christ - Love over Law
Scripture to Read: Galatians 5:7-15
Love fulfills the law. When we live in light of the law, we experience the freedom Christ set us free for!
Love destroys the false ideas that hinder us from running our race well. Love destroys the sinful desires inside us that cause us to stay in bondage. And love destroys self-love when we twist it into a proud, arrogant love.
The only way we can truly love others as we love ourselves is if the thing we love about ourselves is directed by the first commandment of loving God. God is Love. Therefore, when we love ourselves because God lives within us, then we love each other properly.
Galatians: Freedom Through Christ - Walk in Step
Scripture to Read: Galatians 5:16-26
Paul continues his thought on our ability to love one another by noting that we will either walk in the Spirit or walk in the flesh. When we walk with one, we cannot walk with the other.
The beautiful freedom in all of this is that we don't have to produce anything. The Holy Spirit is the one who will produce His fruit in us if we simply walk with Him.
This means we need to recognize how to do this and stay in step with Him. We can't run faster, and we can't lag behind. We must stay in step with Him!
